Mick Jenkins - Elephant In The Room

Mick leans heavily into the more minimalistic jazz vibe he’s been toying with in previous albums on Elephant. I’m really happy with this new sonic development, it’s reminiscent of one of my favorite singles of his; Carefree. Mick raps about feeling like an outsider in hip-hop, and trying to find coping mechanisms in a state of constant trauma and political violence. I think I need to sit with Elephant for some more time, but it’s a solid release from one of contemporary Chicago’s finest.
