JPEGMAFIA - LP!

To be perfectly honest, I never got into Peggy’s music as much as the rest of my contemporary Zoomer music aficionados. He’s certainly got production talent, in the sense that nobody but Peggy could craft the coked-out clicking concoctions he coughs up every record. Peggy’s slowly been going in a more melodic direction, which is a good thing. On LP!, there’s a large improvement on the production front from his previous record All My Heroes Are Cornballs. The beats feel snappier, and more instrumentally diverse. What drags this record down, for me, is that the lyrics are…aimless, at best. It’s a form of rap I resent, wherein the writer seems more interested in spitting hollow one-liners than telling a cohesive story. Unfortunately, the one liners aren’t nearly as funny, clever, or insightful as lyrics from AMHC and as a result, LP! feels like it drags on a lot longer than it should.
